GPS with no data usage

Traveling around and chewing up data on your cell phone is something we all think about, especially when 'out of country'. I found this to work well with no data charges.

Bad Elf Store in case you don't have an iPhone/IPad.

I love it on the iPad Mini. The screen is large enough for all to see. Tracks very well and has voice turn by turn directions. Fully searchable like Google Maps or Maps on the iPhone. Just without data usage.

Yes you do have to download your maps ahead of time, again like other mapping software when you go offline. I have also found that Maps.me works the best with this. Downloaded maps are free (my favorite 4 letter word)!

The only downside is power drain. There is a setting to increase through power to keep the phone or table charged, yet I still find it drains it. This is an issue for extended trips. No issue if the trip/driving is only a few hours. Actually took 4hrs before I had an issue. I pulled out the Bad Elf, pegged in the charge cord and just used the map (old school) till it charged back up.

Solution is to go Bluetooth with it. Each can be charge separately this way. When I replace it, that's how I'll do it.

I had no issues with the Bad Elf holding satellites, even when on the center console of the car. This I had concerns about when I bought it, yet has proven to even work inside my home!

I do recommend this little unit to anyone that travels and just wants GPS Mapping without using your cell data.
